A joint venture between Old Mutual and FirstRand Bank, Portside is a sectional-titled tall commercial tower that became a landmark in Cape Town's emerging financial district.

A joint landmark for two institutions

Portside represents a R1.6 billion joint investment by Old Mutual and FirstRand Bank into Cape Town's CBD, conceived under a co-development and ownership agreement concluded in 2011 to create a tall commercial tower sectional-titled between the two institutions. Jointly managed by Old Mutual Property and Eris Property Group, the development occupies a full city block of 6,500m² at the northwest corner of the CBD, on a site already approved for a tall building within the emerging financial district.

Designed by dhk Architects and Louis Karol, Portside was intended from the outset to anchor a cluster of new medium- and high-rise developments in the precinct, contributing the critical mass needed to revitalise that part of the city.

Spoormaker's role

Spoormaker & Partners served as mechanical engineer on the project, part of a large multidisciplinary team assembled by Eris Property Group and Old Mutual Property.
