Overview

Spoormaker & Partners provided mechanical engineering services for the redevelopment of the historic Boiler House in Newtown, Johannesburg, into Turbine Hall — the R244-million head office of AngloGold Ashanti, comprising some 14,000 m² of office space.

The Challenge

Converting a heritage industrial building into a modern, energy-efficient corporate head office required mechanical systems that could be integrated sensitively into the existing brick and steel structure, while meeting contemporary office comfort and efficiency standards.

Our Solution

Our mechanical engineering team worked with TPS Architecture and Turner & Townsend to deliver an HVAC solution that respected the heritage character of the old Boiler House while incorporating energy-efficiency features into the redeveloped 14,000 m² office building.
